Ramones musical

Vanaf maandag 31 juli is in de Londense Koko Nightclub de eerste punk/rock musical Gabba Gabba Hey! te zien. Een van de hoofdrollen wordt vertolkt door niemand minder dan voormalig Ramones-drummer en producer Tommy Ramone (foto). De musical bestaat uit 18 hoofdstukken die allemaal gebaseerd zijn op de grootste hits van de Ramones waaronder I Wanna Be Sedated, Beat On The Brat, Blitzkrieg Bop, 53rd & 3rd en Sheena Is A Punk Rocker. De rode draad van het stuk is een traditioneel liefdesverhaal over een jongen die een meisje ontmoet. Schrijver/producer Michael Herrmann: ‘Gabba Gabba Hey! reinvents the traditional stage musical for performance in rock clubs. As the first musical to celebrate the perennially popular music of New York’s rock scene – specifically, Ramones and New York Dolls – this show has a definite edge and attitude, in keeping with the aesthetic demands of its target audience.
