Johnny Cash - American V: A hundred highways
What the fuck? Johnny Cash on punx.nl? What the hell was he thinking?
Well, let me tell you there are your regular punkrockers like we know 'm with the spikey hair or the weird color of their hair...but you have them originals...the guys who stood up for something back when punkrock or even rock wasn't born... yup, Mr. Cash, the man in black, an original punkrocker in my eyes.
After Cash died the man's legend was growing in gigantic proportions and all of a sudden everyone liked his music... it is what it is. Record companies are exploiting the man's musical herritage as much as they can while J.C.'s still hot.
'A hundred highways' is a cd that'll make all your hairs stand up and give you the shivers... John's fragile voice is moving me to tears on 'Help me', 'Love's been good to me' and especially 'Rose of my heart'. Some of the songs were recorded just before he passed and that makes it LEGENDARY.
Once again in good old JC's American recordings' tradition there are some cover songs mixed with originals. Cash has the ability to make his versions better than the originals, remember U2's 'one', Depeche mode's 'personal jesus', Nick Cave's 'the mercy seat' and of course Nine inch nails' 'Hurt'. This time Bruce Springsteen's 'Further on up the road' and Hank Williams' 'On the evening train' are immortalized among others.
To top it all, there's an emotional personal note on behalf of producer Rick Rubin included inside the booklet.
Once again....goosebumps...
