Icepick - Violent epiphany
Wow! Jamey Hatebreed and Lord Ezec (ex-Crown of thornz, Skarhead and currently making a fool out of himself as ‘Danny Diablo’) switching vocals in one band. Yup, Icepick is an all-star band. If you love Hatebreed and heavy NYHC with killer beatdown parts you’re gonna cum all over this one. Damn what a power!!!
Jamey has the perfect voice for this kind of music and you gotta respect the man for staying true to a scene that Hatebreed grew out of a long time ago. The album opens with ‘Devotion measures strength’ and immediately grabs you by the throat. The battles between Jamey and Ezec are way too cool, while the band musically kicks a lot of hardcore butt.
‘Tomorrow is not a promise’ and ‘Violent epiphany’ sound killer, while ‘Creations of chaos’ kinda reminds me of Pantera (the background voice on the music). Yup, there’s lot’s of metal influences (no annoying slayer riffs, but cool intermezzo’s) to be found as well.
Funny stuff as well on ‘Real recognizes real’. Ice-T yelling something about Body Count and respect…got me thinking of them old days haha! Freddy Cricien (Madball), Roger Miret (AF, The Disasters), Paul Bearer (Sheer Terror, Joe Coffee), Pete Morcey (ex-100 Demons) and Al Barr (The Bruisers, Dropkick Murphy’s) are joining the band on that certain song, talking about all-star!!
One of the most pissed of songs I’ve ever heard is ‘Onward to victory’. The pitbull in the intro returns in the song making it sound ultra aggressive.
The beginning of the last track ‘Born to crush you’ immediately got me thinking of Sheer Terror…slow and heavy, ‘til the song explodes and finishes ‘Violent Epiphany’ in grandeur.
This is bound to be thé hardcore record of 2006.
