Since the bands inception The Steam Pig has always been a rough and ready recipe of caustic punk rock. Legend has it that it rained golf balls in Dublin shortly after they formed, and they probably bear the scars to prove it......
In September of '94 The Steam Pig were borne of the wreckage of defunct local bands and as the line up solidified, the band took up arms and sentenced themselves to the unsavoury crusade of playing any toilet that would let them past the door.
Over the course of time, the band took their chipped guitars, knackered drums and an attitude you could start a war with to various locations all over Ireland and England playing with the likes of Spithead, Ex-Cathedra, GBH, Snuff, Peter and The Test Tube Babies and not to mention every two-bit punk band in Ireland (and not forgeting some would-be punks who are now aspiring rock stars!!
Following the release of a 17 track cassette on their own "We'll Kill You" Records, the band were offered an album with German label, "Mad Butcher" Records. The resulting "WY-ID T'D DOUBLE-IN" mixing pile driving punk anthems, abrasive Irish wit and 3-chord trad, was warmly received by press world-wide.
Extensive gigging followed and the bands first European tour was on the cards. Sadly, this was never to be due to the tragic death in October '98 of founder member and guitarist, Godsy. After a long break, the remaining members, Del and Boz, along with intermittent guitarist Andy reconvened and a single "Motorhead at 5a.m." (recorded July '98) was released.
1999 saw the band back in operation, with a number of live appearances and a fistful of new material. During the year the band appeared on a number of compilations including a Ruts tribute and a European split label showcase between Mad Butcher and Kob Records. Between Feb and April 2000, the second album, "Deep Fried Obedience" was recorded and mixed in the deepest bogs of Co. Meath. This album was released in November of 2000 on Mad Butcher Records in Germany and Rejected Records in Ireland and was followed by a tactical assault of regional Ireland and beyond.
"Deep Fried Obedience" is a major progression from the band's debut album, maintaining a continued war of wits against catholic Ireland and it's post-famine mentality and a hardcore barrage of belting punk rock. Their next album will be ready for your ears early in the new year and a cracker it shall be......
