Rise Against - The Sufferer and the witness
One of the biggest bands in this modern fairytale is back…Rise Against captured many hearts with their modern mix of hardcore and punk and influenced a whole range of bands to follow in their steps, but there can only be one original…
Tim is one hell of a singer and can easily be considered to be one of the best vocalists of today’s scene, it’s his voice that gives Rise Against their well deserved status.
So the big question was if ‘The sufferer and the witness’ wasn’t gonna be a sell-out disc for those big money bags. You can rest assured, the band picks up where ‘A siren song for the counter culture’ ended. ‘Never change a winning team’ is what the band must’ve thought and they’re right!
Songs like ‘Chamber the cartridge’ and ‘Ready to fall’ are so typical Rise Against. The mix of aggressive and melodic vocals with a huge chorus. And that’s where the band scores it’s points…the choruses are so damn good! Normally I would hate this kind of music cuz it lacks simplicity and it's kinda trendy…gotta gimme some chorus…Rise Against delivers, listen to ‘Under the knife’, ‘Diaspora’ and ‘Behind closed doors’ and bow for this kind of perfection. I could easily sum up the rest of the songs and give you some more details, but they're all so damn good...gotta get this one in your hands asap!
Excellent lyrics that are well worth your attention and as usual the main theme is politics and all them bad stuff happening in today’s wicked world, I’m not gonna get into them in this review, gotta read ‘em yourself you lazy bum :).
I’m sure Rise Against is only gonna get bigger and bigger and along with Ignite’s ‘Our darkest days’, ‘the sufferer and the witness’ is thé highlight of 2006 in this genre so far.
Score: 90/100
