the First step - What we know
The First step is back! After the excellent debut ‘open hearts and clear minds’ this old-school straight-edge machine is back on the map. ‘What we know’ is a tribute to the ’88 sound all the way… The First step isn’t being original here…not at all. Everything has been done before and being in an old-school straight edge band doesn’t leave much room for originality.
I’ve heard a song like ‘Learning’ a thousand times before, but still this kicks some major hiney.
The ‘What we know’ sound reminds me of such names as Battery, Chain of strength, Uniform choice and Floorpunch among many others. Raw, fast, pissed and x’d up all the way!
Nice to hear a band like this again and a big thumbs up for the artwork as well!!
‘Time to understand’, ‘Get wise’, ‘No good reason’ and ‘No way 2 live’ leave nothing to the imagination, this is straight edge buddy and you better leave the beers behind and get that smoke outta the room!!
The First step doesn’t reach the same level of intensity Floorpunch used to, but they’re getting close man, very close! for some reason this cd is exactly what I wanted to hear.
I’m not as enthusiastic about these kinda releases as I used to be, but when the shit hits the fan, I’m as old-school as these guys want me to be.
‘What we know’ kicks major ass and I’m ready to do some more flying through the air, fingerpointing to ‘As it is’ and ‘Cutting through’.
